Smaller liberal arts colleges offer an enriching, top-tier education that you may not be familiar with. A new liberal arts college will be added to this post to give you a chance to read about each one.

  1. Amherst College

Established in 1821 by Congregational clergy and the citizens of Amherst, Amherst is a liberal arts college located in the small upstate town of Amherst Massachusetts. The college has a current population of 1.849 students from all around the world. 45% of those students self-identify as students of color. The student-to-faculty ratio is 7:1. The average class size is 19. 41 majors span areas in humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences. Amherst offers over 850 courses, and more than 6,000 courses available through the Five College Consortium. With an admissions rate of 11%, Amherst is competitive to get into but promises a thorough education for those who are granted the chance to enter. 

Curriculum: Amherst offers faculty advisors and mentors to help students explore their desired majors. The classics like Biology, Anthropology & Sociology, and Computer Science exist. They also have Latinx and Latin American Studies, Russian, and Architectural Studies. Students can have more than one major as well as design their own major. Students can delve into their field of study more through honors theses. Upon graduation, all students will earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree (B.A.).
